☆RESCUER TEST DRIVE: SOMETHING ABOUT US

☆WELCOME RESCUERS

Welcome to Interstellar's second RESCUER TDM! A part of the Interstellar plot that first opened a couple months ago, this TDM cover the second round of recruitment for those approached by the lone space pilot Shep to join him on a mission to the planet Terra to rescue those held captive by Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment. Rescuers will not suffer any memory loss and will enter the game as they are, in contrast to the memory loss/force humanization of the musician half. Powers will be nerfed to a certain degree upon entering the game fully, but during recruitment they will remain at full power.

☆A DREAM ABOUT YOU
These prompts are designed to be game canon, for both rescuers and musicians both new and already in game. For those in game, they will start occurring around New Years in the form of dreams. The dreams will be very clear while happening, but after waking, they will swiftly fade away into something barely remembered. For rescuers, these dreams will occur very shortly before they are approached by Shep or other already recruited rebels to join the rescue squad and go save the people being held captive in Vista City. Rescuers will remember these dreams as clearly as something that actually happened in real life.

Both of these prompts take place in the dreamscape, ostensibly, and the surrounding will appear as whatever fits those taking part in a scene. It can shift and change as a thread goes along, as well, and may resemble things from a captive's home, the game setting, or anything else appropriate. Rescuers that are already in game can also end up in this dreamscape, and can run into both new musicians and new rescue team recruits.

A1) FOR THE CAPTURED: The kidnapped musicians of Vista City will dream of being themselves - in a way more true than they have been for months now. They'll dream of themselves as they're meant to be, in physical form and manner of dress, and their personality will align more easily with their true nature, even as the confusing influences of their programming nag at their mind. It could alarm them, or it could feel somehow natural. Either way, their memories will still be gone, except for what they've recovered - but they feel somehow much closer to reach, like they may break through if only given the chance to dig just about deeper. They may dream of home, they may dream of Vista, but either way...when the morning comes, their memories of this experience will be all but wiped away. Including the memories of the strangers that promised that they would find them and take them home.

A2) FOR THE RESCUERS: The dream is the first sign of something being wrong. You'll find yourself somewhere else - either a scene from your home, or someone else's, or an alien world you've never seen. In this dream, you'll find a person. Perhaps it's someone you recognize, someone you love dearly, but that doesn't remember you. Maybe it's a stranger, lost, confused, and desperate for help. Either way, you find yourself reaching out to them - but outside of this dream, you are helpless to save them. The dream will fade but stay with you in your memory, and may be a key component in you choosing to believe and join the other rescuers when they come to your door. Something has been taken, and you will take it back.

☆MAKE THESE DREAMS COME TRUE
These prompts are design to be kept as game canon after acceptance, and can be used as the official story of how your character entered the game. Importantly, the technology used to enter your timeline causes massive time distortions, which means that the outcome of this scenario will stagger and replay itself multiple times before settling on an outcome. This means that after the fact, you character may remember being encountered multiple ways, or going in more than one direction, before the timeline settled on a final path.

B1) JUST SAY YES: Soon after these dreams, rescuers will find themselves in a strange situation. Time will abruptly stop for every part of the world except for them, and fade into a ghostly vision of its former self - just in time for them to be approached by some mysterious strangers. Whether your rescuer chooses to run, fight, or talk, eventually they'll be told the truth - people of the multiverse have been captured and taken to a universe far away to be harvested for their souls...in the form of forcing them to becoming rock stars. You heard it here first, folks.

The people recruiting you will mostly be other player rescuers that have already been recruited (regardless of whether or not that's been threaded out - you can assume your guy got recruited by someone if you want to recruit OTHER people.) The pilot and owner of the space ship doing this appears to be a blue man named Shep. He's the guy that's apparently in charge of this whole thing, but he's so busy with the dimension hopping that he's kind of hard to find and talk to. He presumably recruited some of the first members personally, but things have been sort of getting more complicated since then.

B2) INTERSTELLAR DISCO: After you've agreed to come for whatever reason - to save you lover, friend, some guy, whatever - you're be taken upon the guitar shaped spaceship to wait out the tide of the temporal distortions picking you up has caused. It's a long journey back to Vista City, and you've got plenty of new comrades to get to know. This mission could take a while, so you better get comfy. You're in for the long haul now.

NOTE: If you want to see the interior of the spaceship (or if you want to see Shep dance) watch the music video posted up top. It's going to be a fair bit bigger in Interstellar to accommodate the big crew, but the essence is there.

"Papyrus!"

Upon turning, Papyrus will see a small human launching themself at him. Frisk's missed him! They've missed all their friends, but Papyrus especially keenly; before, after a certain point, he was never more than a phone call away. It made them feel a lot less alone in the Underground. He couldn't give them much advice about Vista City, but it would be nice to hear his voice.

What's this, Snowdin? They never went home, or back under. This must be one of those weird real-dreams, like where they first met Mr. Universe and ran into Sans again.

It occurs to them, somewhat belatedly, that they may want to hold their tongue about certain things.

Papyrus turns just in time... to catch the incoming human projectile! He whirls them around in a circle around himself, slowing their momentum enough to keep them both from rolling over.

"Frisk! You sound so happy to see me! I understand," he admits, knowing how wonderful it is to be in his presence, "but, I don't want to let you down. The puzzles are incomplete, and you've already solved these ones anyway!!!"

If Frisk is back in Snowdin with him, then they must want to reminisce about the good old days. Solving puzzles, fighting in the haze before Waterfall, those terrible hours where his friendship was the only thing keeping them going...

Frisk giggles as they're swung around, and keeps hold of Papyrus even after they're set back down. "That's okay. We don't need these ones anymore." Looking around is still...fun? Maybe fun is the wrong word for what they feel when they revisit the Underground, but despite how hard and scary everything was down there and how much they wanted out, going back isn't a bad thing. Especially not to Snowdin.

"We can play in the snow instead." There's not as much to do here with it so empty. But it's Papyrus. Between the two of them, they can make their own fun.

"Play in the snow...?" He looks around over Frisk's head, considering. It seems a shame to leave the puzzles incomplete like this, after all that time and work he's put into them. But with Frisk right here, there's no sense in working on them now. That would distract him from visiting with them! Besides, it's not their job to fix the puzzles. It's his, and his brother's.

"Oho! I know." Thinking of Sans gives him an idea, and Papyrus leads them down the slope to the clearing where the snow-Papyrus and lump-Sans once stood. The snow is pristine once again.

He winks at Frisk, and gestures at the empty space. "We can turn the tables on my brother! And build snow-people, while waiting for him to show up."

Frisk can't help but chew on their lip for a moment, but they try to keep their expression stoic.

"Okay." Sans is never going to show up. Even if this were real, he wouldn't. But they won't wait here forever; eventually one of them will wake up. Maybe Papyrus won't even remember the dream once it's over. It won't get a chance to disappoint him.

Better, then, to just take this time while they have it and not worry. "I can make a snow-me this time!"

Their deception is likely to be successful in the short term. Papyrus has never been great at reading Frisk's expressions, and that's unlikely to change in the course of a dream. What he remembers afterwards, however, might disappoint them both.

"Well, I wasn't suggesting you build a snow-Sans! Yours would almost certainly be better than his. And that might hurt his feelings!" He intends to build another snow-Papyrus, of course. His face is best possible subject for artistic creations.

Perhaps this one should be in a car, with cool shades, instead of flexing to impress people. Driving is even more cool than big biceps.

"I don't know." Sans has always seemed to be at peace with his snow-Sans skills. But yeah, it'd be mean to make a better one right next to where he puts his. His usual lump is fine once it's labeled. It's...demonstrative. "But maybe I'll make some of our friends too. Undyne and Alphys probably won't come do themselves, it's too cold."

They stand and scan the area, mentally laying out their ideas. There could be a snow Undyne and Alphys, and Toriel, and Asgore. Asgore would be the hardest; he's enormous.

spaghettimonster: (I HAVE ONLY GOOD FEELINGS ABOUT THIS.)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-02-26 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sans is very good at not telling people things. Things that he knows, things that he's feeling... Who knows how he actually feels about his snow lumps? Papyrus has this nagging feeling that they're as symbolic of his self worth as Papyrus' excellent sculptures are of his own.

"I don't know how they can stand Hotland. Could stand." Papyrus frowns, confused for a moment. "We did go to the surface. So, why are we here...?"

Well, best not to dwell on it. He can multitask. Think about that while starting to build up a mound for the future car's base.
determinate: (❤ contemplation)

[personal profile] determinate 2016-02-26 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Frisk shoots Papyrus a sidelong glance. But he seems to have let it go. Still...they're used to keeping secrets, but outright lying rankles at them. It usually isn't needed; no one ever actually asks anybody if they're a time traveler, or if they know dead people.

"It doesn't snow as much up top," is all they end up saying. They bend down, starting a snowball and rolling it around. "But seasons are going to happen." Everyone's just going to have to get used to dealing with heat or cold, or whatever it is they don't like. At least the area they're in isn't all that extreme.
spaghettimonster: (. . .)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-02-28 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe most people don't, but skeletons are outliers. They might ask Frisk strange questions, in the right circumstances. Dog marriage and all.

"Oh! So it doesn't," he notes, accepting Frisk's implied explanation. "Doesn't that get inconvenient? Needing different clothes for different seasons?" It's a very good thing they're near an ocean; Undyne would be unhappy at both ends of the year, especially the summer, if she didn't have a good place to go cool down.

[personal profile] determinate 2016-02-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Frisk shrugs. "I guess. You just need more kinds." They've never really lived in a place consistent enough to only buy one type of clothing. It probably would be convenient. They've got a particular fondness for sweaters.

"Some places are hot or cold all the time," they add, kneeling to pat their snowball into a less lumpy form. "But that's far north or south. Or maybe in a desert if you want it to be hot. Most humans don't like those places."
spaghettimonster: (MASTER CHEF)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-02-29 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Humans prefer living in places where it's always changing? No wonder Frisk was able to traverse the Underworld so quickly. They were already used to a constantly changing environment...

Papyrus considers the amount of snow actually on the ground here, and his grandiose plans, and realizes they'll need more. So he heads to the top of the slope, gathers a big ball, and guides it down. A few bones stopping it every couple of feet handily keeps it from gaining too much momentum.

He continues musing aloud, "I can only imagine how big the average human's closet must be... Should we have moved somewhere with a bigger one???"
determinate: (❤ agreement)

[personal profile] determinate 2016-02-29 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Frisk pauses in their own efforts to watch Papyrus retrieve more snow. It's always interesting to them, how the monsters use magic just in their normal daily lives. Humans are a lot stronger, but maybe that book in the library had a point about the whole expression thing. They don't feel like their determination is very fun to use.

"It's okay." They shrug. "Not everyone has a lot. Or you could get a dresser." Do the skeletons even need weather-appropriate clothing anyway? Maybe they just want to fit in.
spaghettimonster: (Papyrus modestly admits to his strengths) (AFTER ALL I AM VERY GREAT)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-02-29 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Admittedly, Papyrus tends to wear dark tights under his battle body; the better to match his walk sprite's portrayal. But those are just thin leggings. They provide minimal warmth, given how little he wears on top of it. His clothing choices are entirely for fashion and morale. There's nothing for getting into the mindset of exercise like a Jog Boy tanktop.

"A dresser...? Like Sans has?" He considers the possibilities, hauling the big snowball on top of the future-car mound. "Oho! I could keep season-relevant clothing in the dresser, and everything else stored in the closet! That would be incredibly functional. And so easy to remember!"
determinate: (❤ thumbs up)

[personal profile] determinate 2016-02-29 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah! That's how humans do it." Probably. Look, we all know Frisk's wardrobe isn't that extensive. Now that they're hanging around with Papyrus and Mettaton, though, that's probably not going to last.

They pat the base of the snow-Frisk a few more times, then turn to start on the second part. "We should all go shopping when it starts getting colder. You guys can all get coats." Sans is the only monster they know who seems to own one and he doesn't even get cold. To be fair, most of them didn't actually live in Snowdin before.
spaghettimonster: (CoolSkeleton95) (COOL DUDE)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-03-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Frisk's wardrobe is going to become increasingly flashy. Descriptive labels, bright colors, bizarre imitations of cutting-edge human fashion. Hopefully somebody intervenes before they get too absurd.

He begins at the top, sculpting an exquisite replica of his own skull. "Undyne and Alphys could get matching coats! Just imagine how cute they would be." Those two would certainly want them, considering the warmer areas they've lived in.
determinate: (❤ human)

[personal profile] determinate 2016-03-02 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Frisk giggles, starting to sculpt out an approximation of their own hair. "That'd be so cute!" They wonder if they make coats short enough for Alphys? Well, they're gonna have to start making all kinds of new clothes to fit monsters - they need to start sometime. "Maybe Alphys could get one in blue and Undyne could have a yellow one."

They should probably have practiced making snowmen more. Brow furrowing in concentration, they carve out a few more lines. "Do you know that talking snowman?"
spaghettimonster: (HMMM... I WONDER WHAT I SHOULD WEAR...)

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2016-03-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I do!" Not especially well, since Papyrus really isn't that great at making friends with people, but he at least knows of them. "Their life must be hard, unable to walk and run around. If you see them, be nice, okay?"

His attention is still at least half on the idea of what colors Alphys and Undyne would be wearing. Alphys is yellow, so Undyne wearing yellow would match. He's a little unsure about the blue for a few minutes, until it finally hits him. "Wearing each others' colors! That is cute. But, blue for Undyne's scales? Why not green for her magic?"
