He's afraid to answer, and his reasons for why are split down the center. On one half, he's afraid that she may be angry that he doesn't. On the other half, he so desperately doesn't want to hurt her by admitting that he's not the Steven she wants.

But it's not like he can change the truth.

"I'm sorry," he says again, and it's as good as a 'no, I don't'. He looks around again, and part of him wants to run, but he doesn't. "I don't know where I am."

And that's where it breaks. His voice shudders and the tears become too much for him to hold back.
