When Toriel sits back, Sans sits up, slumping leisurely like he meant to be down here all along. Even though what Toriel suggests a moment later is a horrifying new possibility that he hadn't even considered yet.
The possibility of it being some kind of timespace warp had been distracting him so much he hadn't even considered that this was some kind of...followup, maybe, to the whole barrier thing. The truth of it is that none of them super know how the thing worked, besides how to break it and go through it. It's not like any of them had been the one to cast it.]
