☆RESCUER TEST DRIVE: SOMETHING ABOUT US

☆WELCOME RESCUERS

Welcome to Interstellar's second RESCUER TDM! A part of the Interstellar plot that first opened a couple months ago, this TDM cover the second round of recruitment for those approached by the lone space pilot Shep to join him on a mission to the planet Terra to rescue those held captive by Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment. Rescuers will not suffer any memory loss and will enter the game as they are, in contrast to the memory loss/force humanization of the musician half. Powers will be nerfed to a certain degree upon entering the game fully, but during recruitment they will remain at full power.

☆A DREAM ABOUT YOU
These prompts are designed to be game canon, for both rescuers and musicians both new and already in game. For those in game, they will start occurring around New Years in the form of dreams. The dreams will be very clear while happening, but after waking, they will swiftly fade away into something barely remembered. For rescuers, these dreams will occur very shortly before they are approached by Shep or other already recruited rebels to join the rescue squad and go save the people being held captive in Vista City. Rescuers will remember these dreams as clearly as something that actually happened in real life.

Both of these prompts take place in the dreamscape, ostensibly, and the surrounding will appear as whatever fits those taking part in a scene. It can shift and change as a thread goes along, as well, and may resemble things from a captive's home, the game setting, or anything else appropriate. Rescuers that are already in game can also end up in this dreamscape, and can run into both new musicians and new rescue team recruits.

A1) FOR THE CAPTURED: The kidnapped musicians of Vista City will dream of being themselves - in a way more true than they have been for months now. They'll dream of themselves as they're meant to be, in physical form and manner of dress, and their personality will align more easily with their true nature, even as the confusing influences of their programming nag at their mind. It could alarm them, or it could feel somehow natural. Either way, their memories will still be gone, except for what they've recovered - but they feel somehow much closer to reach, like they may break through if only given the chance to dig just about deeper. They may dream of home, they may dream of Vista, but either way...when the morning comes, their memories of this experience will be all but wiped away. Including the memories of the strangers that promised that they would find them and take them home.

A2) FOR THE RESCUERS: The dream is the first sign of something being wrong. You'll find yourself somewhere else - either a scene from your home, or someone else's, or an alien world you've never seen. In this dream, you'll find a person. Perhaps it's someone you recognize, someone you love dearly, but that doesn't remember you. Maybe it's a stranger, lost, confused, and desperate for help. Either way, you find yourself reaching out to them - but outside of this dream, you are helpless to save them. The dream will fade but stay with you in your memory, and may be a key component in you choosing to believe and join the other rescuers when they come to your door. Something has been taken, and you will take it back.

☆MAKE THESE DREAMS COME TRUE
These prompts are design to be kept as game canon after acceptance, and can be used as the official story of how your character entered the game. Importantly, the technology used to enter your timeline causes massive time distortions, which means that the outcome of this scenario will stagger and replay itself multiple times before settling on an outcome. This means that after the fact, you character may remember being encountered multiple ways, or going in more than one direction, before the timeline settled on a final path.

B1) JUST SAY YES: Soon after these dreams, rescuers will find themselves in a strange situation. Time will abruptly stop for every part of the world except for them, and fade into a ghostly vision of its former self - just in time for them to be approached by some mysterious strangers. Whether your rescuer chooses to run, fight, or talk, eventually they'll be told the truth - people of the multiverse have been captured and taken to a universe far away to be harvested for their souls...in the form of forcing them to becoming rock stars. You heard it here first, folks.

The people recruiting you will mostly be other player rescuers that have already been recruited (regardless of whether or not that's been threaded out - you can assume your guy got recruited by someone if you want to recruit OTHER people.) The pilot and owner of the space ship doing this appears to be a blue man named Shep. He's the guy that's apparently in charge of this whole thing, but he's so busy with the dimension hopping that he's kind of hard to find and talk to. He presumably recruited some of the first members personally, but things have been sort of getting more complicated since then.

B2) INTERSTELLAR DISCO: After you've agreed to come for whatever reason - to save you lover, friend, some guy, whatever - you're be taken upon the guitar shaped spaceship to wait out the tide of the temporal distortions picking you up has caused. It's a long journey back to Vista City, and you've got plenty of new comrades to get to know. This mission could take a while, so you better get comfy. You're in for the long haul now.

NOTE: If you want to see the interior of the spaceship (or if you want to see Shep dance) watch the music video posted up top. It's going to be a fair bit bigger in Interstellar to accommodate the big crew, but the essence is there.

eba02: (Someone who appears and saves the day)

Agent J | Elite Beat Agents | Rescuer

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-04 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
A2. It's been a bad day; please don't take a picture

Evidently it's time for weird dreams again. J takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly as the scenery materializes around him. It's almost always the same with these: walk into someone else's dream, find a skipping, warped tune in need of help, provide as much of that help as he can before he inevitably wakes up, and find the person he met in the dream under the labels' thumb. He tries, and they never remember. It doesn't take.

It's kind of depressing.

Or maybe that's just the way life is going for him right now, and he was hoping his dreams would at least provide a respite. Oh well.

He rolls his shoulders back and quietly steels himself for whatever - whomever - he's about to find.
ebd_starr: (It's the end of the world as we know it~)

[personal profile] ebd_starr 2016-05-05 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
There's a familiar blonde up behind him, standing looking out over the scenery for a moment. She's trying to figure out why she's there herself. Then she found it. The music was strange, not right, and it was killing her in a way. She had to find the source of it, and fix it, no matter what. She walked forward, pausing when she saw a familiar figure.

"J?"
eba02: (Who are you? I really wanna know)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
For one awful, heart-stopping moment, J is completely filled with dread. It's Starr- but he mostly found musicians in dreams- they got Starr-

But her tune is as strong and whole as ever, and she knows who he is.

The moment passes. He remembers how to breathe.

He turns to face her and doesn't quite manage a smile. There's no way she didn't hear that, and there's no use in pretending otherwise. "Boy, am I glad to see you."
ebd_starr: (Frustration)

[personal profile] ebd_starr 2016-05-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
"You want to explain where we are? And what's going on?" Straight to the point, as ever. She stopped to take a look, and listen, to him. Something was really wrong. He didn't look good, and didn't Sound good.

"And what happened to you?"
eba02: (Shine a light on me)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
He can't really hide anything from Starr, and after he's spent so much time and effort hiding so much about himself from nearly everyone here, that's both a relief and the worst possible thing. He laughs, weakly - his heart's definitely not in it.

In the time they've been talking, the scenery around them has resolved itself into some awfully familiar sights: tall buildings still blazing with light even though the sky was dark, fake glitz and glamor, and Priscilla's in the corner of the street. It's his dream. He's the one who needs help here.

J can't say he's surprised. At least he hasn't been brainwashed. He thinks.

"We're in Vista City," he starts, "in a country called Americana, on some planet that's not in our solar system, or dimension. This is a dream right now, but I've spent the last few months of my waking life in Vista." He gives that one a moment to sink in. "It's a pretty long story, if you've got the time."
ebd_starr: (Target Acquired: Pwnage to Come)

[personal profile] ebd_starr 2016-05-05 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
She watched as the scenery changed, then settled into the mysterious city. She listens to the short version of his explanation before making a face at the facts. Motioning to a nearby bench, she takes a step forward.

"Well, I think we have some time. I'll listen if you're willing to tell." She had to help fix his Music. But she wasn't going to say that out loud and worry him.
eba02: (Hello from the outside)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't've offered if I wasn't." He walks with her over to the bench and takes a seat.

It takes a few false starts, but the whole story finally comes out: about the two nonhuman record execs kidnapping people and brainwashing them to play music; about music magic, and why the execs want it, and how it figures into their universe-ending race to the finish; about receiving the request for help and accepting it; about Gold and Silver; about trying to stay off the execs' radar and still doing what he can to help, and it never really being enough. "An' there's supposed to be time travel involved in this too, so I should be comin' back at the same moment I left. So if I'm suddenly real tired one day, you know what happened." He pauses to consider the flip side of that circumstance. "An' if I suddenly disappear one day...well, you know what happened."

It's fairly obvious in his tune that his time in Vista hasn't done him much good. He's stressed, he's exhausted, he's afraid, and he's been trying to handle it all on his own for far too long, which has worn him down something awful.
ebd_starr: (Smug)

[personal profile] ebd_starr 2016-05-05 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll remember that. And catch you if you ever pass out one day." She said, taking a minute to think over everything and file it away. "Because you'll come back. Exhausted, but you'll come back."

At that point, she leaned over and grabbed him into a hug. Sure, it wasn't something she would normally do, but there wasn't anyone from the team to see the weak moment. And he looked like he needed a hug.

"I know you can do this J."
eba02: (I think I might've made a mistake)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks." The smile still isn't there, but she might be able to hear a glimmer of it in his tune. There's moments where he honestly finds it hard to believe that he'll ever make it home; having someone who knows him inside and out and still believes in him helps more than he can say.

And then she hugs him.

For a moment, he freezes - he heard it coming but still didn't expect it. But-

The next moment, he collapses into it, wrapping his arms around Starr and holding tight. Evidently he needed this a lot more than even he knew. He takes a moment to try to steady himself, opens his mouth to thank her again, and-

"I don't know what to do anymore."

That...was not what he'd meant to say at all, and now that the words are out, he can't stop them. "I mean, I- I do what I can- I do everything I can, I try my hardest, an' I- it doesn't work, or it works but it all gets undone or goes to waste, an' I- I just don't know anymore." He shakes his head. "I need backup, but I don't want any of you near here. Not with things goin' the way they are."
eba05: (My time with it's pretty initial)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
The sound of dischord echoes through the dream, but the shared occupant isn't the source. The youngest agent has screwed his face up with one hand pressed to an earphone. This tune is way off, andhe has to work to harmonize at all.

Before he can fully sync, he recognizes that signature swirl of hair belonging to his peer. Spin straightens up.

"J!"
eba02: (Who are you? I really wanna know)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
There's a moment of recognition, and another of very intense listening, but- no, Spin's tune is intact. He's fine. A little off-balance, because that's Vista in a nutshell, but fine. Good.

The smile doesn't quit make it to his face, but it's not for lack of trying.

"Give it a minute, Rookie. The Music here's a mess."
eba05: (However unlikely it seems)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-05 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"You're telling me, man."

He'd started to brighten at the sight of J, but the feeling is fleeting. Slowly, Spin's brows draw together. Something feels... truly off.

The rookie agent looks out over the unfamiliar space. "What happened? It's everywhere." The only times he can think of the music going this bad over such a wide space, it was from true disaster impending. Those times, however, had been the frantic, hurried beats of panic. The sickly throb of this music had sunken deep into its rhythm.
eba02: (Shine a light on me)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
For all the grief J gives him, Spin is actually a pretty quick study. It's nice to have a reminder every once in a while. "Two very powerful bad apples screwin' up the whole bunch, if you can believe it. They think the city's their playground." He'd gotten so accustomed to hearing Blanche and Lesedi buried in the city's backbeat that it had become easy to tune them out when he wasn't in close proximity to either record label. "A really high tenor an' a really low bass, if you can hear 'em."
eba05: (Though it kinda sounds cheesy)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-05 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
What Spin lacks in experience, he makes up for in study. Though it'd likely be more comfortable and sane to block out the bad tune as much as possible, he does his job and listens close to the roots of the damage. They're so deeply ingrained he has to take a while to pick them out. It makes him shudder.

"DJ outta hell." He glances sidelong at J. "You're matching."
eba02: (Hello from the outside)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Sets your teeth on edge, doesn't it." At least they're not close enough to either label to get an earful of the CEOs. Small blessings.

That is not surprising. Disheartening, yeah, but not surprising. J shrugs, not meeting Spin's gaze. "Well, you dance to someone's tune long enough..."
eba05: (Don't doubt me though)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-05 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard to believe two people could do this much damage, but hearing is believing. Spin's fairly certain he doesn't want to get any closer to the sources.

The whole point of the shades was to help hide their gaze, but surely J could feel Spin's eyes on him, worried and uncertain. "You uh... you been warming up for a mission here, man?" Because he had only seen J a few hours ago, but this sounded like... long-term work.
eba02: (Shine a light on me)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-05 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
J can feel the weight of that gaze and hear the worry in Spin's tune. It's been a good long while since he's been around someone he could absolutely not hide anything from; it's both refreshing and awful, all at once. "Been workin' it solo for a few months, actually," he admits. There's no hiding from the truth, and no reason to try. "There's dimensional shenanigans an' probably time travel at work here too, so it's pretty weird even for us." There's also Music-wrecking power hungry aliens, but one thing at a time.
eba05: (In any time that you should fall)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-06 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
The Agency has handled some really strange stuff, so none of this sounds quite as out there as it would for most people. It does, however, sound like one hell of a tall order to ask of someone. If Spin had heard from the start J were taking a mission like this alone, it would only bolster his high opinion of the man. Now, however, he can only hear the damage.

J can handle pressure. This is more than that.

Spin looks over the dream-conjured city, finding himself very anxious. "Are you gonna make it on your own?"
eba02: (Givin' you a number)

[personal profile] eba02 2016-05-06 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's quick and to the point. The question startles a mirthless laugh out of J - it's short and sharp and doesn't sound good any which way you hear it. "God, I hope so."
eba05: (Though it kinda sounds cheesy)

[personal profile] eba05 2016-05-06 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Spin's too worried to go for subtle. J's more than a friend, he's family. And that laugh sounded like a cymbal crash. "Talk to me, man."
